You are laughing and enjoying your holiday with your loved ones when suddenly, you knock over your wine. Never to fear, this usually dreadful moment is an issue no more with this cleaning technique.
With all wine stains your best bet is to act fast to stop the stain from bonding to your carpet. Blotting with a white cotton towel, working outside in, is always the first step. The reason we use a white cotton towel is to not bleed the towel’s pigment into your nice carpet. Do NOT rub the stain in.
White Wine Carpet Stains
All you will need are: white cloth or paper towels, water, and baking soda- this works best with white wine stains specifically. ie.- Using paper towels quickly dab the stain and absorb as much of the liquid as possible. When there is no more wine coming up, dab a bit of water into the stain. Water will dilute the stain and continue to blot until no more comes up. If there is still a wine stain, create a paste of baking soda and water, leave on the stain until dry and vacuum away.
Red Wine Stains
If you spilt red wine, blot the stain as much as possible and prepare a solution. You will need a tablespoon of vinegar and a tablespoon of hand dish washing soap and add these products to two cups of warm water. Pour this solution onto your stain and blot until it is removed. Another option is if you have club soda, blot the stain, pour some club soda on it, blot, and repeat until the stain is over. PS not all white wine will get out red wine. Depends on the carpet fiber and the grape. Cheers y’all!
